America never committed to Cambodia causes during the Vietnam-American war, playing politics with Cambodian lives. Now this new immigrations Law have no mercy on Cambodian people again, I wonder, if some laws and politicians understand the meaning of human rights, those Khmer who's committed crimes already serves their fair share of time in prison, why still deport them? What human rights does these politician understood? Do these politicians understand anything or have commons senses or conscience. I think all they cared about is to get elected to their post period.

Hello,

My family like so many is living in fear right now that our family member who was brought to the US from a Thai refugee camp when he was less than a year old will soon be deported back to Cambodia. He is in a NYS prison currently and has been having communication with the INS concerning him being deported and his ability to stay in the US. He will be traveling to INS court in March. He has had no legal counseling. It is too costly for us and we have been told by people with similar situations that it is a 50/50 gamble to pay for an attorney. We are talking about a young man who was born in a refugee camp, raised in America, limited knowledge of Cambodia culture and language, and no family in Cambodia. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My name is David Blackman and I am a retired Lawyer from California who is representing American Cambodians in the Khmer Rouge trials in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I have been working pro bono for three years and this problem recently surfaced for me. I met a young American Cambodian man who obviously had spent time in prison in the US. I was a criminal lawyer for many years and recognized by his speech and actions that he had been in Prison. I then followed up by doing some research and am absolutely amazed by the unconstitutional action of the US. For the last three years, I have been studying the Khmer Rouge and the US's involvement that resulted in a major power vacuum that lead to the rise and leadership of the Khmer Rouge. It was Nixon and Henry Kissinger who began the horror that resulted in the auto-genocide that took place in Cambodia for almost 4 years. I started an organization called American Cambodians for Justice realizing that my clients would be Khmer Rouge immigrants, but I had no idea that there was another reason for my organization. I would be willing to spend some time figuring out what could be done in the US to stop the deportations.
