I think “politics” is the most flexible human skill I’ve ever known of. It can be an adorably sweet diplomacy. It can also be a painfully bitter trick. Many politicians promise things. But very few live up to these. I’m not surprised with that phenomenon because, as an entrepreneur, I believe there are good and bad businesspeople as there are good and bad politicians. In addition, I believe one should not depend too much on national politics. One should have one’s own politics or principles or goals or dreams. Once one strive to pursue their goals and dreams in life, national politics become auxiliary. Can one achieve one’s goal in a country of war? Well, I believe you can, as long as you adjust your personal politics to those of the nation and bypass the loopholes in a very subtle way. I stand for nothing? Sorry I’m just standing in the middle 😀
I utterly agree with Sovichet and Sithen’s comments above. From the cradle to the grave, we live our lives in the midst of politics. Politics is not just for politicians or government officials, it’s for everyone. What you don’t know can hurt you. However, in our society, and in many others, politics has gained a bad reputation. This is because politics as practiced is so often bad politics. By bad politics, I mean most people talks on principle but act on interest and the political processes primary activity often does not lead to real attempts to understand and try to solve the real issues affecting the group. Instead most people just do or say whatever necessary in order to become more successful or powerful. Anyway, politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong. So, in Cambodia nowadays most politicians are outright crooks, in it for the money; while others are just frightened rabbits. So reforming politics through politicians is nearly impossible.
